I am thinking of using fossil stone countertops in my kitchen, what should I do first?

With kitchen countertops, we typically deliver cut, edged, finished, sealed countertops “ready to install”How durable is the fossil stone. Can I damage it in normal use?
The fossil stone is a unique freshwater, sedimentary, limestone quarried in southwestern Wyoming. With proper care it will last a long time. Limestone is by nature much softer and more porous than say granite or quartz, lake all natural stone, care should be taken not to cut directly on the stone or place hot objects on the surface. Regarding the porosity of the stone, we apply two factory coating of a sealer designed to protect it from stains. We recommend the stone be cleaned and re-sealed every few years.
Note: With limestone portions of the stone will etch and spall over time and darken. We find this to be a positive aspect to the stone. It develops a patina from use. If at some point you would wish to return the stone to it’s original finish, a light sanding and a resealing will typically bring it back to it’s original finish. Will you help me design my Countertop?

Like all natural stone products fossil stone countertops will require some level of care. Avoid cutting directly on the stone or placing hot objects directly on the stone. We recommend the use of cutting boards and coasters. We provide the stone with two factory coatings of a penetrating sealer designed to protect it from stains. Still we recommend that you try and avoid grease and other staining materials from landing on the stone. Should they get on the stone, we recommend they be removed quickly using a soft cloth and a mild soap. Periodic cleaning and resealing is recommended.
